What is Reiki
A gentle practice — often at a distance
Reiki is a gentle Japanese relaxation practice that invites deep rest for the nervous system. Cheri offers most of her Reiki virtually as Distance Reiki over a simple video call: you rest fully clothed in a quiet place at home while she guides the session. Some people prefer an in-person table or chair session in the SF Bay Area — both are available; distance is simply how most of her clients work with her today.
Cheri is a Registered Nurse and certified Reiki practitioner (Level 2), with additional Motoki training. That nursing background matters: she understands your medical picture, communicates respectfully with your care team, and is clear about what Reiki is and isn’t. Reiki is a comfort-focused complement to medical treatment — it supports rest and balance, and is never presented as a cure.

What to expect
A session, start to finish.
You rest, fully clothed
At home for Distance Reiki (or on a table/chair in person). Nothing to do, nowhere to be — just permission to rest.
Quiet, guided care
In Distance Reiki, Cheri works remotely while you rest; in person she may use light hands-on or hovering hands, always with your consent. Many people feel warmth, tingling, or simply deep ease.
A settled nervous system
The quiet, unhurried pace helps your body shift into rest-and-digest, where recovery happens.
A gentle return
You come back slowly, often feeling relaxed and clearer. Cheri leaves time to talk about how you feel and what's next.
Reiki doesn't push or fix. It simply offers your body a quiet space to remember how to rest, reset, and connect.

Where this fits
Part of your whole-person path
Reiki is one pillar of integrative wellness at Chronic Health Wisdom, and it pairs naturally with meditation for deeper rest. Some coaching packages include complimentary Reiki sessions — see the packages page for details. If you’re managing a diagnosis, condition support coaching can fold Reiki into a broader plan for comfort and ease, always coordinated with your medical team.

Common questions
Reiki, answered
Answered by Cheri Sacks, RN — a Registered Nurse and certified Reiki practitioner. Most sessions are Distance Reiki by video; in-person is available by request.
Distance Reiki (most sessions): you rest fully clothed at home on a video call while Cheri guides a quiet remote session — nothing you need to do except relax. Sessions usually last 30 to 60 minutes, and many people feel warmth, gentle tingling, or deep ease.
In person: you rest on a table or recline in a chair while Cheri may place her hands lightly on or just above a series of positions, always with your consent. Either way, you’re cared for by a Registered Nurse throughout.
Reiki is gentle and non-invasive, and it’s widely offered in hospitals and cancer centers for comfort and relaxation alongside treatment. It is a complement to medical care, never a substitute, and it won’t interfere with chemotherapy or medications. As a nurse, Cheri coordinates with your care team and adapts for ports, incisions, or tender areas when you meet in person. Distance Reiki can be a gentle option when travel or immunity is a concern. Always keep your prescribed treatment going and tell your oncologist about complementary therapies you use.
No and no. Reiki is painless, and you remain fully clothed the entire time — at home or in person. In-person touch is light and still; if you’d prefer no physical contact, Cheri can work with hands hovering or offer Distance Reiki instead. Your comfort and consent guide every session.
Research on Reiki is still limited and early, and it has not been shown to cure disease. What it can reliably offer is deep relaxation, and studies and patient reports suggest that relaxation itself may ease stress, anxiety, and the perception of pain. Cheri, as an RN, is transparent about this: Reiki is a comfort-focused support to medical care, valued for how rested and at ease it helps people feel.
There’s no set number — many people enjoy a single session for relaxation, while others prefer a short series during a stressful stretch, like recovery or treatment. A common starting point is one session to see how your body responds, then deciding together. Cheri never locks you into a package you don’t want.
Yes — and that is how most of Cheri’s Reiki is delivered. Distance Reiki is a guided remote relaxation session over video, which clients prefer for convenience, travel, or when they’re under the weather. In-person sessions remain available when you want them. Whether at a distance or in person, the aim is the same: a quiet, restful space to help your nervous system settle. Reach Cheri via the contact page to arrange either.
